On December 16, 2023, Stuarts Legal held a webinar titled “EPC Projects in the New Reality.”
The webinar provided a comprehensive overview of the steps that clients and contractors can take to “rescue” equipment from Western countries following the imposition of unprecedented sanctions against Russia and in connection with ongoing capital construction projects in Russia. It also explained the steps that could lead to the exclusion of companies from the EU sanctions framework, using examples from the speakers’ interactions with EU sanctions regulators.
Participants learned about the risks facing construction clients after the withdrawal of Western technology licensors from Russia. They explored whether it is possible to alter existing project solutions, whether the original licensor can involve the client in legal proceedings, and even potentially halt production.
The webinar also covered new available technologies from major friendly countries (China and India) and the current realities of the Russian market in terms of import substitution for Western technologies.
